BuildEth Code of Conduct

Short Version

Be professional and respectful in your interaction with others. Harassment and abuse are not tolerated. If you are in a situation in an event where you are a victim of harassment or abuse, if the event itself is creating an unsafe or inappropriate environment, or if you believe the behavior of an attendee, organizer, speaker, sponsor, staff, guest, vendor, or anyone else involved with a BuildEth event constitutes harassment, abuse, or offensive behavior, please reach out to a event organizer to contact relevant authorities.

Longer Version

BuildEth LLC and the organizers and others involved in BuildEth events believe that each person has the right to participate in an environment that is inclusive, safe, professional, and welcoming.

Attendees, organizers, speakers, sponsors, staff, guests, vendors, and anyone else at BuildEth events are subject to this Code of Conduct and should act in a professional and respectful manner and not harass or abuse others while in attendance at all BuildEth events, in any and all online interactions in relation to the event, at event-related social occasions, and while on event-supplied transportation, if any.

Speakers, sponsors, and other presenters should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material in their presentations, in the booths, or anywhere else during the event. Booths and any booth staff (if any) should not make use of sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes or otherwise create a sexualised environment.

Harassment includes but is not limited to offensive verbal or written comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. If what you are doing is considered by someone to be offensive behavior, that counts as harassment and is enough reason to stop doing it.

Attendees who are asked or told by other attendees and/or organizers or staff to stop harassing behavior or abuse are expected to comply immediately. If an attendee engages in harassing behavior, the organizers of the event may take any action they deems appropriate, including warning the offender, asking them to leave the venue for a specific period of time, or expelling them permanently from the event. In the event of expulsion from an event, there will be no eligibility for reimbursement or refund of any type and any eligibility for any gifts or prizes – awarded, participation, raffle, or other, if any – will be eliminated and/or revoked.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the event organizers using the reporting procedures defined below. Event representatives will assist participants in contacting event security or local law enforcement, providing escorts, or otherwise assisting those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event.

If you are a victim of harassment or abuse or think there may be a potential violation of this Code of Conduct, please report it immediately using one of the following methods provided below or in conjunction with this notice. All reporters have the right to remain anonymous.

The BuildEth organizers reserve the right to revise, make exceptions to, or otherwise amend these policies in whole or in part. If you have any questions regarding these policies, please contact the hackathon organizers at the email address provided in conjunction with this notice.
