Web3 Patterns to be Explored
DeFi Patterns
Liquidity Pool Patterns – Explores the logic and flows between routers and trading pairs within automated market maker (AMM) logic. Largely informed by the innovations led by Uniswap v3 and v4.
Yield Farming Patterns – Used in lending situations so as to increase or maximize yield while limiting downside and/or risk of capital.
Vault Patterns – Used for handling segmented shares of EIP-20 tokens and are found in use in lending markets, aggregators, and interest-bearing token implementations. ERC-4626 proposes to establish a standard API to support the creation and operation of tokenized vaults.
Liquid Staking Patterns – Describe how Liquid Staking Derivatives (LSDs), Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs), and other tokenized synthetics are used in Proof of Stake networks.
MEV Patterns
Front-running Patterns – Inserting transactions and manipulating transaction ordering so as to profit from the inbound transactions of others.
Sandwich Attack Patterns – Placing a transaction both before and after a target transaction on the blockchain which manipulates the price the target receives for a trade in a DeFi protocol, allowing the attacker to profit from slippage.
Liquidation Patterns – Centers around searchers or arbitrageurs watching for accounts involved in lending protocols on blockchain networks that are close to being liquidated and then executing transactions to liquidate them at the optimal time.
Mitigation Patterns – Countering opportunistic trading strategies used to gain unfair advantages in DeFi trading situations.
Contract Deployment Patterns
Transparent Proxy Pattern – Uses a contract that includes an admin address as well as logic for how to delegate calls to an implementation.
Diamonds Multi-Facet Proxy Pattern (ERC-2535) – Codifies the concept of a diamond which is a modular smart contract system that can be upgraded/extended after deployment and which has virtually no size limit.
Account Abstraction and Intents Patterns
Account Abstraction Pattern – Introduces an account access layer to make working with crypto-based accounts more secure, flexible, and intuitive.
Intents Pattern – Introduces the concept of an intent which is signed a set of declarative constraints that allows a user to outsource transaction creation to a third party without relinquishing full control to the transacting party.
Bridging, Cross-Chain Messaging, and Oracle Patterns
Cross-Chain Messaging Patterns – Facilitates the transfer of tokens, data, and smart contract commands across blockchain networks.
Oracle Patterns – Addresses techniques used to obtain onchain and offchain data including using multiple oracles, constraining or extending the protocol/network sources used, addressing floors, ceilings, and other edge cases, and factoring in data ranges, averages, smoothing, and other data presentation techniques.
Gas Optimization and Other Utility Patterns
Merkel Whitelist Pattern – Storing whitelists via a Merkel tree with each leaf represents a whitelisted address. The root of the tree is a single hash that represents the whole set of addresses, which can then be checked with a proof in a contract.
